In most cases, the occurrence of headaches is provoked by stress, overwork, excessive emotionality and physical stress. Often such a headache is of moderate intensity and causes a feeling of constriction on both sides. When such sensations appear, it is quite possible to get rid of a headache without pills – it is enough to apply special relaxation methods, exercises and aromatherapy, these are the methods we will talk about in the article.
How to get rid of a headache without pills: relaxation techniques, exercises and aromatherapy
Not only pills can eliminate a headache. There are many natural remedies that have proven to be effective methods of getting rid of migraine, but the following methods are recognized as the most effective:
- relaxation;
- exercises;
- aromatherapy.
Relaxation techniques for headache relief
Massage. Thanks to self-massage of the head, it is possible to achieve muscle relaxation, as well as improve cerebral circulation. Self-massage, carried out for 3-5 minutes, successfully relieves headaches and fatigue.
Lower your head and begin to move towards the neck from the crown.
First stage – stroking. The palms should be placed on the head so as to connect the fingers at the top of the head, then proceed to stroking the sides of the head with the palms (without touching the ears), then the frontal and occipital parts. Then do the same using the pads of your fingers.
The next stage of self-massage – is the execution of pressing movements. The head is massaged simultaneously from both sides with the bases of the palms, after – pads of all fingers and phalanges of fingers clenched in a fist. The occipital and frontal areas should be treated more intensively.
The third stage of head massage – rubbing performed with the pads of the fingers. Direction of movement – from the crown down to the ears, neck and brow ridges. After that, strokes should be repeated again and at the end, circular rubbing of the temporal areas should be performed.
The final stage – tapping, which is performed with the fingertips of both hands over the entire head. In this case, a more intense effect is exerted on the frontal and occipital parts.
Contrast foot baths. With this procedure, you can improve peripheral circulation and get rid of headaches without the use of pills.
In one basin you need to pour water 38-40°, and in the second – cold water. start alternately lowering your legs first one and then into another container. For this purpose, you can also use a contrast shower.
Exercises to relieve headaches
Exercises for the eyes. Using exercises for the eyes, you can get rid of a headache without pills by stimulating cerebral circulation.
- First close your eyes tightly for 3-5 seconds, and then open your eyes – repeat the exercise 6-8 times.
- For 15 seconds, blink very strongly – repeat the exercise 3-4 times.
- Close your eyes and massage your eyelids for 1 minute using circular motions.
- Make circular movements with your eyes first in one and then in the other direction – repeat the exercise 4-6 times.
Breathing exercises. Movements during breathing exercises affect the vascular system of the brain. By changing the amount of blood in the brain, fluid movement in the cranial cavity is stimulated. This phenomenon tends to intensify with an increase in the intensity of breathing.
Headache Aromatherapy
Thanks to aroma oils, muscle tension is relieved and vasodilation occurs. The following aroma oils will help get rid of a headache without pills: lavender, grapefruit, orange, spearmint oil.
Peppermint and lavender oils are suitable for high blood pressure, for low blood pressure – grapefruit and orange. You should mix 2-3 drops of oils and add a teaspoon of base oil (olive, apricot or almond). This mixture is rubbed behind the ears, between the eyebrows and into the temples.
Sometimes it's enough just to stay for a while in a quiet and dark room or put something cold on the back of the head. Headaches are also often caused by dehydration, so remember to drink plenty of water.
