We will show you five easy steps to grow a tangerine from seeds.
Step 1. Selection of seeds and planting methods
Choose 10-15 largest and beautiful bones without spots. They can be germinated in several ways:
-
Put in gauze and soak. They must lie down in a damp environment for several days in order for sprouts to sprout.
-
To avoid fiddling with gauze and water, you can use a hydrogel. The seeds should be placed between the hydrogel balls.
-
Mandarin seeds can be immediately stuck into the ground, for example, plant them in a pot where a flower is already growing. This will need to be done as soon as you get them out of citrus. Do not forget to water and monitor soil moisture.
Step 2. Planting in ground
When the seeds swell and peck, they will need to be transplanted into small plastic cups with drainage holes. Place expanded clay on the bottom of the cup and pour in a suitable substrate. It is best to buy special soil for citrus fruits. If this cannot be obtained, then use any light soil without peat (for example, "Biohumus"). Peat for citrus fruits is contraindicated, as it does not retain moisture well.
Water the soil and plant the seeds at a depth of 2-3 cm. In 2-4 weeks you will have the first shoots. When the roots fill the entire cup, the plant can be transplanted into a pot. This should be done by the transshipment method, i.e. carefully move the plant along with the earthen clod.
Young plants will need to be transplanted once a year in the spring into a larger pot. When your tree bears fruit, a transplant will be needed every 2-3 years. It is better not to disturb old plants, but to periodically remove the old top layer of soil and add fresh substrate to pot.

In order for it to bloom in spring, it needs a temperature 16-18 °C. Optimal temperature for winter — 14 °C, so he will feel best on insulated balcony than in an apartment with central heating.
-
It is necessary to water the tangerine regularly in order to prevent the soil from drying out. Water must be settled and room temperature. In autumn and winter, watering should be reduced to 3 once a week as the soil dries.
-
Mandarin must be sprayed with water daily. Make sure that water does not get on the flowers. Once a month, it can be washed in a shower with soap, after covering the soil with a plastic bag.
-
You can feed the plant in spring and in early summer with complex mineral fertilizers. In winter, feeding is not needed.
Step 4. Disease Prevention & Pest Control
The most important pests of tangerine — aphids, flies and red mites. You can fight them with the help of special biological products or a soap solution. Put the plant in a bath, cover the soil with a film and wash the leaves with warm soapy water (laundry soap will do). After 2 days, repeat the procedure.
Another plant problem — waterlogging of the soil. It is necessary to ensure that not fill the tangerine and periodically loosen the earth so that it has time to dry out.
