The reason for everything — cortisol and adrenaline, which are released into the blood every time you experience strong emotions. These are stress hormones that trigger hidden reserves of survival: forcing blood to rush to muscles and vital organs so that you can flee or actively defend your life. Only when you're nervous waiting for an important phone call or feeling fear, sitting in a queue at the dentist, you'll neither run away nor fight. But  the mechanism of stress is already running: your skin has begun to drain blood (and, accordingly, its supply of nutrients and oxygen has decreased), your blood pressure has increased, and

With frequent or constant activation of stress mechanisms, the heart and  vessels wear out, and appearance undergoes unpleasant changes: pale lifeless skin, dull, sparse and brittle hair and, in general, a sickly appearance.

There is only one way out: give your emotions an outlet. This does not mean that you need to raise your voice at the interlocutor or engage in assault. Instead, you can simulate a fight or flight — Walk quickly along the corridor, run up and down several flights of stairs, do 10-20 squats. This will let the nervous system understand: the defense mechanisms have worked and it made you protect your own life.

Types of Emotional Reactions: Survival Instruction

Depending on the characteristics of the response to stress, psychologists distinguish three types of people:

Rabbit

These are people who almost instantly lose their fortitude, and are unable to take any rational action in a stressful situation. They hide from  problems, forcing themselves to believe that no problems exist. As a result, acute stress becomes chronic. For "rabbits" the main danger is metabolic disorders — weight gain out of the blue and  stubborn, exhausting insomnia.

For "rabbits" it is important to control the quality of sleep, and even with episodic cases of insomnia, take drugs with a sedative effect. It can be light sedatives — motherwort or valerian root tincture, valerian extract tablets, or other over-the-counter products. In addition, it is important for to monitor blood sugar and the health of the thyroid gland, which should be regularly examined by doctor.

Lion

These are people who immediately join the struggle and solving problems. But they do it in a hot head, not giving themselves time to calm down and analyze the situation. As a result, one problem can turn into several, and "lion" exhales quickly and loses strength. In  such people are at risk, first of all, the cardiovascular system and, in particular, the vessels of the brain — sudden bursts of activity in an attempt to understand the situation, leads to a sharp expansion of blood vessels, which can cause acute circulatory disorders in the brain.

For people with this type of emotional reaction, it is important to relieve the physical symptoms of stress. For example, systematically engage in sports or other physical activity — this stimulates the production of stress hormone antagonists — serotonin and dopamine. In addition, you should give up any stimulants in the form of alcoholic beverages, smoking, energy drinks, strong coffee.

Ox

People of this type — standard in terms of solving life problems. They treat themselves and the world around them rationally, don take on the fault of others and do not allow themselves to take the position of a victim. "Oxen" evenly distribute their forces, and therefore can be at the epicenter of stress for years without any risk to health.
