There are many types of phobias: agoraphobia, arachnophobia, claustrophobia... One of the ones that gets the most attention is androphobia. People suffering from this phobia tend to experience feelings of panic in the presence of a man or a group of men.

Why do women tend to suffer from androphobia and, as a result, to experience an intense and irrational fear of men? The editors of estet-portal.com figured out this problem.

Androphobia as an irrational fear of men – where is the source of the problem

People suffer from numerous specific phobias and experience a deep state of anxiety all the time. About 75% of people with phobias are more afraid of the situation than the immediate object of fear.

The reasons responsible for sexual phobias can be of different and varied nature. What about androphobia – it is a disorder that causes a constant, intense and abnormal fear of a man.

People suffering from androphobia are very nervous in the presence of men, but also when talking to one of them. This irrational fear of men makes her avoid them. Such situations can occur even when in contact with male relatives or friends and constitute an obstacle in the personal and professional lives of those suffering from a phobia.

These traumatic aspects can be represented by violence, psychological abuse, bad relationship with the father. A phobia can even arise for cultural and moral reasons, when a woman was brought up submissive and obedient.

The phobic realizes that not all men can pose a real threat. However, he cannot get rid of the irrational panic in the presence of men. The people most affected by androphobia are women from 18 to 40 years old.

Although they are aware of the illogicality of their fear, they are not accustomed to expressing their emotions and are not acting out of fear of social rejection. Women tend to apologize and avoid situations where they have to deal with a man in order to avoid fear, which can cause terrible anxiety.

Androphobic women seek relationships but are always "unreliable" and avoid commitment not only in a temporary sense, but also as an ability to engage, use their emotions and experience an emotional mode. Very often they are women who are looking for men who are full of expectations and dream that one day their hostility can be completely refuted.

Is there a link between androphobia and misandry

Don't confuse androphobia with misandry. Those suffering from androphobia seek treatment. At the same time misandria – this is a feeling of hatred for a man, which arose for various reasons.

Misandria arises, in most cases, in response to misogyny (hatred of women) and is a feeling of struggle against male dominance in society. To claim that this is androphobia and not misandry, a person must suffer from an irrational and excessive fear that destabilizes his daily life.

To get rid of the fear that is preventing you from feeling good and achieving well-being, you will have to work in "steps":

  • First stage - awareness of the phobic phenomenon;

  • Second stage - awareness, in the sense of recognizing that this is not a weakness and that it is impossible to get rid of it alone;

  • The third stage is action: a strategy to deal with the phobia in order to gain confidence and self-esteem.

Treatment for androphobia is the same as for any other specific phobia. A number of cognitive-behavioral psychological therapies are used to treat this disorder, dominated by natural interventions. If you suffer from this disorder, we advise you to consult a psychologist who specializes in this field.

Androphobia has deep roots - the fear of being abandoned, hurting another, or, conversely, being drawn into a totalizing relationship. You can take the path of controlling reactions, but it is difficult to accept and eliminate such a phobia. It is best to go through a psychotherapeutic path of treatment to help overcome psychological barriers and release the negative emotional chains that stifle the expression of love.
