Each virus that enters the body must be rendered harmless and destroyed. To do this, there are molecules that are the protectors of all body cells and are called immunoglobulins or antibodies. Such protection of the body with the help of immunoglobulins is called the humoral system – it is the protection of the liquid medium: blood, saliva, lymph.

Human immunoglobulin can fight foreign cells and secrete its own antigen for each virus, increasing the body's resistance to the influence of a virus or infection the next time, they remain in a person forever.

What is human immunoglobulin

Antibodies or immunoglobulins – These are protein molecules produced by lymphocytes and are located on the surface of these cells (B-lymphocytes). Human immunoglobulin has an increased selectivity, and is aimed only at neutralizing certain viruses.

For example, in response to the penetration of staphylococcus a human anti-staphylococcal immunoglobulin is produced, which protects the body only from this type of virus, while the other – the following type of antibody is produced.

Such selectivity is explained by the direction of the immune system to neutralize only harmful infections, keeping all cells intact. Immunoglobulins destroy the virus inside and remove it from the body, leaving behind a reliable barrier for the penetration of the same virus.

In the human body there are only 5 classes or fractions of immunoglobulins (G, M, A, E, D). The most common faction is  lg G – can cross the placenta and form the protective functions of the fetus during gestation.

IgG is also the most effective at finding and binding antigens for further removal. The first weeks of life the child is protected by this immunoglobulin.

Main functions of immunoglobulins

The main purpose of antibodies is to protect the body from the attack of viruses. Let's take a closer look at all the functions of antibodies of the immune system:

1. recognition of harmful foreign bodies;

2. connection with a special antigen to trigger a response protective function;

3. direct participation in the process of removing the infection;

4. protection against subsequent infection;

The reverse reaction can also develop and autoimmune diseases occur when the body produces cells that can attack themselves.

This is typical in lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis,  scleroderma. In such diseases, patients are prescribed intravenous immunoglobulins to normalize the amount of antibodies in the blood and prevent the irreversible creation of passive immunity.

Immunoglobulin test: what it shows

Human immunoglobulin lives directly in the blood serum, and when analyzing all the indicators of antibodies in human blood, diseases such as hepatitis C, tuberculosis, rubella, giardiasis, helminthiasis and the like can be predetermined.

What answers can an antibody test give:

1. by the presence of antigens, one can tell if there are viruses in the body and in what quantity;

2. the analysis will also show the body's response to the invasion of infections, whether it can cope on its own or whether outside intervention is required in the form of treatment;

3. it is also possible to determine the development of the disease, detect the stage, predict the result;

Cortisol belly: causes and how to deal with stress fat

4. the analysis will show the presence of tumor markers for malignant cells in case of suspicion of the oncological nature of the disease;

5. in case of an allergic reaction, the analysis will show the antigen that caused it;

6. during pregnancy, an immunoglobulin test shows the process of acceptance by the mother of the fetus and the reaction.

Also, an important indicator of antibody susceptibility is the reaction of the body after organ transplantation to a person.  If the body rejects the transplanted organ, then according to the state and degree of antibody activity, it can be concluded whether the organ will be able to take root or whether it is worth taking drugs that suppress the immune system to accept the new organ.

How human immunoglobulin is used in medicine

Blood serum is used to extract raw materials, which are the basis for medical preparations that create a passive reaction of the body for antiviral, antibacterial or antitoxic protection.

How to deal with acidification of the body and restore its former health?

Such drugs can save a person's life with whooping cough, scarlet fever, measles, meningococcal infection.

During pregnancy with Rhesus conflict, immunoglobulin is prescribed to successfully bear a child and save the life of both mother and child.
