According to a survey conducted by Psychologies magazine, 77% of women believe that happiness – the main condition for feeling beautiful. As Audrey Hepburn said, "I believe in pink, and also that happy girls are the most beautiful." Have we finally freed ourselves from the yoke of standards and, thanks to increased wealth, have become self-confident? Yes and no. Here are some data.
Confidence and attractiveness
The more a woman likes her appearance, the more flaws she finds in herself. This is most pronounced in girls under the age of 24: 97% of them are sure that they are beautiful, but 75 girls out of 100, having the opportunity, have changed some part of their appearance. Of course, this is a consequence of immaturity and hypersensitivity, because young persons are an ideal target for advertising subjects of the beauty industry, inspiring potential buyers with the idea of their physical shortcomings. Due to unformed self-esteem and lack of life experience, girls are the most vulnerable to advertising influence.
In addition, the main age task of a woman is from 20 to 24 years – search for a marriage partner. Under these conditions, the issue of external attractiveness becomes critically important – because a man subconsciously chooses the most beautiful – and therefore, a healthy and capable woman to conceive and give birth to healthy offspring.
As women age, they focus less and less on the shortcomings of their own appearance and want to change something in their body to a lesser extent. At the age of 25-45, 80% of women would like to correct their appearance in some way, and in the group over 45 this figure drops to 70%.
Perhaps these figures reflect the revolutionary changes taking place in the female consciousness – maturity allows a woman to accept herself as she is. Mature women become more active, have the desire and opportunity to enjoy life. They create, realize themselves, find love, create families and even give birth to children. And it is no coincidence that bookshelves are flooded with novels about late love, and stunningly beautiful mature models are increasingly walking the catwalk.
Peace of mind is most characteristic of women aged 35-44. They are comfortable in their body, they feel completely beautiful. They can point out the imperfection of certain parts of their body, but they are not going to fanatically correct "flaws": only less than 50% of women consider active body care an indispensable condition for their attractiveness. In this age period, a woman knows her own body, has learned to emphasize the merits and hide the flaws. She chooses a hairstyle, clothes, style, taking into account the peculiarities of her figure, and therefore feels comfortable and calm. And demonstrates his own confidence to others, which makes them especially attractive.
Be yourself and be desired
All the contradictions in how women perceive their appearance are connected with the original duality of our attitude towards appearance. Women want to please themselves and feel comfortable in their bodies. On the other hand, it is impossible to build one's own image and attitude towards it without being reflected, as in a mirror, in the eyes of a man. As a result, a woman is torn between the desire to be herself and the need to be desired.
Declaring the primacy of natural self-worth, she can zealously criticize diets or ridicule the cult of youth, but at the same time she is ready for any sacrifice to lose a kilogram or two or get rid of the wrinkles between the eyebrows. She blames the advertising pressure that cultivates the image of a young, slender beauty as the only one accepted in society, but is immediately ready to support the most radical measures to match this image. They want to shake off the pressure of society and at the same time meet its standards – this is the essence of the psychological trap that most women find themselves in.
The effect is most dramatic for girls: immaturity forces them to act in accordance with social stereotypes, and this pursuit of conformity leaves no room for acceptance of their characteristics, does not allow them to move on their own path.
Goal – youth
Despite the fact that the hunt for harmony has become a fixed idea, most often this is not an end in itself: women lose weight in order to look younger. Slenderness is characteristic of youth, and a young woman – beautiful, full of vitality and therefore desirable. This is confirmed by the fact that in cases where you have to choose between a slim figure and a youthful face, women choose the latter.
Harmony of external and internal
Theoretically, the importance and simplicity of the idea of the harmony of internal and external is accepted by each of us. However, we achieve this harmony and find ourselves most often in the process of attracting a man and in order to be loved by him. In striving to be the subject of her life, the woman also strives to be the object of his desire. Sometimes, trying to create an artificial image alien to us, we spend on this mass of energy. If we manage to fully realize ourselves, we feel a surge of strength and the joy of being – and show it to others. It is this manifestation of our own identity that makes us attractive and desirable at any age!
Here, at the crossroads of desires, perhaps your path to true beauty is located. Take care of your soul and body, enjoying both. Strive for the manifestation of your own uniqueness, understanding how great the influence of your attitude to the world on your appearance. After all, beauty – it is not only a narcissistic pleasure, but a bond that connects us to other people.
