Коронки на зубы – какие лучше устанавливать и почему

Caries and pulpitis often lead to loss of most of the tooth. In this case, it is already useless to put a seal: it falls out. The tooth loses its functionality and appearance. If it is not restored, diseases of the digestive system are possible, and inconvenience during meals and complexes due to an ugly smile are almost guaranteed. This problem is solved with the help of crowns. They are made from various materials. Let's figure out what kind of crowns there are for teeth, which ones are better to install and why.

Types of dental crowns: materials for the manufacture of prostheses

Crown — This is a prosthesis made of artificial material. Its functions are the same as those of a real tooth. The crown is installed on the remaining part of the treated tooth, on a pin or a special stump tab. Preparatory manipulations take the most time and can be painful for the patient.

In some cases, dentures are installed for aesthetic reasons: if there is a noticeable gap between the teeth or if your own teeth look ugly. Prostheses designed for two or more teeth are called bridges. Products are made from materials with different properties. They differ significantly in price, durability, appearance.

The final choice is always with the patient, so it makes sense to study crowns for teeth: which ones are better, stronger and will last longer.

Metal crowns — comfortable, durable, but ugly

The main plus of metal prostheses — excellent biocompatibility. Products are made of anti-corrosion materials. They do not deteriorate and do not affect adjacent teeth. Quality metal crowns are cheap and last for decades. There is only one minus, but a significant one: the products look ugly.

Metal is rarely placed on the front teeth, but for chewing it is an excellent choice. It is possible to install prostheses based on precious metals or steel with gold, chromium or cobalt plating. The first option is more expensive, but the finished products are guaranteed to be hypoallergenic.

Pay attention! When deciding to install a certain type of crown, it will have to be adhered to in the future if new prostheses have to be placed. It is undesirable to combine different metals.

 Permet  — combination of strength and elasticity

These prostheses are made using a combination of high-strength metal and ceramics. This gives great results. Such a crown is able to stand 5-10 years, retaining its functionality and presentable appearance. The prosthesis is very similar to a real tooth, but if chipped appears the difference becomes obvious.

The advantages of ceramic-metal products include hypoallergenicity, strength, durability, and pleasant appearance. Minus — higher price than metal prostheses. Such crowns are suitable for installation on teeth included in smile line.

Metal-free ceramics — indistinguishable from real teeth

From an aesthetic point of view, this is an impeccable option. By installing crowns on the basis of metal-free ceramics, you get a beautiful smile, and artificial teeth cannot be distinguished from real ones.

The most commonly used materials are:

  • Porcelain. The crowns are very beautiful, but do not withstand high loads, they last about 5 years.

  • Zirconium dioxide. These are durable products that do not cause allergies and retain their original appearance for a long time. Disadvantage — high cost.

  • Aluminum Oxide. Aluminum oxide crown is less expensive than zirconia, but and less durable. It is better to choose such a prosthesis for the front tooth, but for the chewing one it is worth finding a more wear-resistant material.

Reinforced   — inexpensive temporary option

Metal-plastic looks great and is relatively inexpensive, but this material does not withstand serious long-term loads, it darkens with time. Such prostheses can be installed as temporary ones. It is worth considering possible allergies. It is better not to put metal-plastic on chewing teeth. It can be out of order in a couple of months.

At a Glance: Choosing Crown Materials

Determining which types of dental crowns to choose for front and chewing teeth:

  • metal dentures are suitable for chewing teeth if they are not visible when smiling;

  • metal ceramics is universal, it can be chosen for both anterior and molar teeth;

  • Porcelain dentures are often installed on the front teeth: they are not strong, but they look beautiful;

  • for chewing teeth, it is best to choose products made of zirconium dioxide;

  • Alumina crowns can be used for molars, but it s best not to risk it as anterior teeth will last much longer.

When choosing crowns, one should compare the cost of materials, their characteristics and aesthetic properties.
