A question of a person's self-esteem – takes effort to figure it out. The easy-to-use and understandable method proposed by S.Ya. came to the aid of psychodiagnostics. Rubenstein in 1970. It is included in a set of methods for designating a person's self-esteem. In conjunction with personal conversation and other means, an excellent result is achieved.
At the heart of the – Dembo technique, which helps to discover a person's idea of his happiness. S.Ya. Rubinstein supplemented it with 3 more scales. Each test participant receives a questionnaire and instructions for the task. On the form, they mark on the lines with dots their level of development of a set of qualities, and the desired one, i.e. the degree of development of these same qualities that would satisfy them.

Dembo Method
– very easy to carry out, the subject is given a sheet of paper on which a vertical line is drawn, 100 mm long. This trait denotes one of the indicators, for example, happiness. The top point on the line – a state of boundless, complete happiness. Lower – the place of the most unfortunate people. With a pencil, pen or marker, the participant is asked to indicate with a thick dot their individual level of happiness, and the level of aspirations at which they would feel as happy as possible. !
The study is carried out according to the following indicators:
• health level;
• mind, ability;
• character;• happiness.
How to Neutralize Criticism Quickly and Painlessly
After completing the task – constructive conversation with the participant. In the course of it, they determine what health means to him, the concept of happiness, unhappiness. The test does not end with the placement of points, it is only material for building a conversation with the subject. It turns out why he placed a point in a certain segment of the line, whether he feels happy, healthy. If he assumes that he is sick, then what kind of illness is it.

Deciphering the results of the Dembo self-assessment diagnostic method
Line length 100 mm, according to these interpret the results by quantitative characteristic, for example, 50 mm – 50 points. A realistic indicator of the level of claims, normal in a healthy person – 60-89 points. Relatively high requirements – 76-89 points, this is the optimal result, which indicates a real representation of human capabilities. 90-100 points – unrealistic assessment of possibilities.
Test: What does your handwriting say about your health and character
Among mentally healthy people, there is a tendency to place points a few mm above the middle. The mentally ill place marks on the poles of the scale, which distorts the results, positional opinion disappears.
The results of self-assessment of the individual by the number of points 45-74 – talking about realistic self-esteem. 75 and above
– overestimated conceit, indicating deviations in the development of personality. This indicates the inability to correctly evaluate oneself, compare oneself with others, and the inability to evaluate one's mistakes.
Result below 45 points –
Requirements for conducting a conversation with a participant
• listen carefully to the subject;
• pause, do not push the participant;• when experiencing difficulties in answers, ask indirect questions;• build questions in the right way, involving the participant in the conversation;• don't give hints when he stammers;• do not ask leading questions;
• give emotional support, do not show excessive desire to hear his answer;
• the tone of the conversation is calm, friendly, business-like.
The results obtained
are important for identifying psychological disorders. Their comparison with individual thinking and the sphere of emotions show a critical attitude towards oneself, a depressive assessment or euphoria. It is not recommended to use it in cases of its direct impact on human life, for example, when appointed to a position.
Anti-social phobia: fear of people – signs, causes, treatment
The Dembo Method
was originally used to assess the state of happiness. If the test results indicate a slight discrepancy between self-esteem and claims, this indicates that the participant is "closed"; to the evaluation of others understanding and real vision of the remarks. This hinders the constructive development of personality.
